Product description

Calm white to brighten a spring bed

Antarctica tulips are a lovely choice when you want a pure white to soften a busy garden palette or stand out against dense green foliage. Their upright stems carry single, cup-shaped flowers that may show a subtle yellow touch at the base. Plant the five bulbs together in a wide pot or at the edge of a sunny bed for an elegant white patch in spring. This variety is also suitable for cutting when the bud begins to show colour and looks attractive in simple flower arrangements.

English name: Antarctica Tulip. Botanical name: Tulipa 'Antarctica'. It belongs to the Triumph group and reaches around 50 cm in suitable conditions. Height and flowering time in Jordan may vary with winter cold, the site and care.

Growing in a Jordanian garden or balcony

Plant after the weather and soil cool in autumn or early winter, in a sunny position with well-drained soil. White makes a striking contrast beside purple or yellow flowers, or on its own in a neutral-coloured pot. The pot needs enough depth and drainage holes; if it is small, spread the bulbs between containers rather than crowding them. Flowering is in spring, with actual timing varying by region and season, so there is no fixed day or week for flowering.

Planting and care steps

  1. Prepare loose, well-drained soil and keep the pot out of standing water.
  2. Plant each bulb pointed end upwards, around 10–15 cm deep, leaving approximately 8–10 cm between bulbs in a bed. In a pot, leave space and do not allow the bulbs to touch.
  3. Water after planting to settle the soil, then monitor moisture during growth. Water as needed without flooding, especially in heavy soil.
  4. After the flower fades, remove the flower head and leave the foliage to yellow naturally. Equally strong flowering the following year is not guaranteed, particularly in warm winters.

Tulips are ornamental plants, not suitable for eating. Handling their bulbs may irritate some people's skin; wear gloves when needed and keep bulbs away from children and pets. The front-of-pack image provides no confirmed information about preparation or pre-chilling.

Frequently asked questions

How many bulbs are included, and what is the price? The original pack contains 5 Antarctica tulip bulbs for 3 JOD per pack.

What colour are the flowers? Usually pure white with a slight yellow hint near the base. The visible shade may change with the light and stage of flowering.

Can I grow them in a pot? Yes, provided the pot is wide and deep and has drainage holes. Leave enough space between bulbs or use more than one pot.

When should I plant them in Jordan? After the weather and soil cool in autumn or early winter. Flowering starts at different times according to local cold and the season.

How tall do they grow? Around 50 cm in suitable conditions, with some variation possible in a home garden.

Are they suitable as cut flowers? Yes. Cut the stem when the bud begins to show colour and leave enough foliage if you want to keep the bulb.

Will the bulbs flower again each year? They may return, but subsequent flowering is less certain. Leave the foliage to yellow and provide well-drained soil.
