Product description

Rich colour and the fragrance of spring

Jan Bos hyacinths bring rich reddish-pink colour and upright, fragrant flower clusters to a balcony or garden. Small florets gather along sturdy stems surrounded by long green leaves. Place a pot near your entrance or within view of a window to enjoy both the colour and the scent.

This Hedera pack contains 3 Jan Bos hyacinth bulbs, imported from the Netherlands. Plant them together in a sufficiently wide pot or divide them between two pots. Plants typically reach around 25 cm in suitable conditions, making them useful for containers and the front of flower beds. Flower-cluster size, density and height depend on bulb size, light, temperature and care.

Botanical name: Hyacinthus orientalis 'Jan Bos'. The flowers are a strong reddish pink or deep fuchsia and may look redder under different lighting; they are not pale pink. Fragrance intensity varies with the growing position and stage of flowering. You receive planting bulbs, not flowering plants.

Planting and care

  1. Plant in autumn once the weather is milder and the soil has cooled in your area. Choose sun or light shade and well-drained soil. Avoid places where water collects.
  2. Position each bulb with the pointed end upwards, about 10 cm deep, leaving at least 7–8 cm between bulbs in the ground. Cover fully with soil and water to settle it around the bulbs.
  3. For containers, use a deep pot with drainage holes and suitable potting mix. Space the 3 bulbs apart in one large pot or divide them between two. Keep in a bright position and water as needed without leaving the saucer full.
  4. Do not assume these bulbs have been specially prepared for early indoor flowering. The pot can be brought indoors to enjoy the flowers as the clusters begin to open.
  5. After flowering, remove the faded flower stem and leave the leaves until they yellow naturally. Water moderately while the leaves are growing, then reduce watering during dormancy.

The bulbs may flower again the following season in suitable conditions, although the flower clusters may be less dense.

What you receive

A Hedera pack of 3 Jan Bos hyacinth bulbs for ornamental planting. The bulbs are not edible and may irritate the skin. Keep away from children and pets, and wear gloves if your skin is sensitive.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a colour mix?
No. All 3 bulbs are the same Jan Bos variety.

Can I plant all 3 in one pot?
Yes, provided it is wide and deep enough, has drainage holes and leaves suitable space between the bulbs. Alternatively, use two pots.

Will they arrive in flower?
No. They arrive as bulbs to plant and will flower later in suitable conditions.

Is the fragrance noticeable?
This is a fragrant variety, but scent strength changes with flowering stage, temperature and ventilation.

Will they flower again next year?
They may do so in a well-drained position, but flowering density can vary in later seasons.
