Product description

A touch of purple before spring reaches its full colour

Picture a pot beside your front door, with vivid purple tulips rising above neat green leaves. That is the appeal of Purple Prince: a single, cup-shaped flower in a rich purple that looks elegant on its own and stands out alongside white or yellow flowers. As the flower opens in the light, its deep purple interior reveals a golden-yellow centre. The visible shade may vary slightly with the light and stage of flowering.

The pack contains 6 bulbs of the same Purple Prince variety, imported from the Netherlands and packed locally under the Hedera brand; it is not a mixed pack. Plant them together in a wide pot or at the front of a flower bed for a cohesive patch of purple.

Tulipa 'Purple Prince' belongs to the Single Early group and reaches around 35 cm in suitable conditions. “Early” is relative to other tulip groups, not a promise of a fixed flowering date in Jordan.

Growing in Jordan

  • Plant when the weather and soil cool in late autumn or winter, in a sunny position with well-drained soil.
  • Set each bulb with its pointed end upwards, approximately 10–15 cm deep, leaving around 10 cm between bulbs without allowing them to touch.
  • Water after planting to moisten the soil, then according to soil dryness and rainfall; avoid standing water and bulb rot.
  • After flowering, remove the faded flower and leave the foliage to yellow naturally. Equally strong flowering cannot be guaranteed in subsequent mild winters.

Do the bulbs need chilling? Tulips need a suitable cold period to flower. If this batch has not been pre-chilled and your planting site does not provide enough cold, refrigerating the bulbs for 6–10 weeks in a ventilated paper bag away from fruit may help. Plant them immediately after removing them. Check this batch's chilling status with Hedera.

What you receive: A pack of 6 ornamental bulbs, not suitable for eating. Keep away from children and pets.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pack include different shades of purple? It contains one variety, Purple Prince, rather than a mix. The visible shade can vary with the light and stage of flowering.

Can I grow them in pots? Yes, in a pot with drainage holes and enough depth and space for all six bulbs.

What does “early tulip” mean? It flowers relatively early compared with some tulip groups, rather than on a specific date in Jordan.

Must I chill the bulbs? This depends on how cold your area is and whether the batch has been pre-chilled. Check the batch status before planting.

Will they flower again next year? They may grow or flower again, but this is not guaranteed. Leave the foliage to dry naturally and avoid excess moisture during dormancy.
