Product description

Yellow petals with red markings that look painted on

Banja Luka tulips have yellow petals with red streaks or flames rising from the base of the cup. This contrast makes the flowers stand out against green plants. The pattern and amount of red may vary slightly between flowers and with the light and stage of flowering.

The Hedera pack contains 6 bulbs of the same Banja Luka variety, imported from the Netherlands. This is not a mixture of red bulbs and yellow bulbs: both colours appear on each flower. Plant them together in a bed by the entrance or divide them between two deep pots. Tulipa 'Banja Luka' belongs to the Darwin Hybrid group, with large flowers and upright stems. It reaches around 60 cm in suitable conditions, while flowering time may vary with seasonal cold and the planting site.

How to plant

  • Plant when the weather and soil cool in late autumn or winter, in a sunny position with well-drained soil or a deep pot with drainage holes.
  • Set the pointed end upwards at a depth of around 10–15 cm, leaving around 10 cm between bulbs. Divide them between two pots if needed.
  • Water after planting to moisten the soil, then according to soil dryness and rainfall; do not leave the pot in standing water.
  • After flowering, remove the faded flower and leave the foliage to dry naturally. Equally strong flowering the following season is not guaranteed.

Pre-chilling: Tulips need a suitable cold period. If the batch has not been pre-chilled and your site does not provide enough cold, refrigerating the bulbs for 6–10 weeks in a ventilated paper bag away from fruit may help. Plant them immediately after removing them. Check this batch's chilling status with Hedera.

What you receive: A Hedera pack of 6 ornamental bulbs of the same variety, not suitable for eating. Keep away from children and pets.
