Product description

Fragrant hyacinths for spring containers

Gipsy Queen hyacinths produce upright clusters of small flowers above green leaves, creating a gentle display on a balcony. Place a pot near an entrance or seating area to enjoy their fragrance.

This Hedera pack contains 3 Gipsy Queen hyacinth bulbs, imported from the Netherlands. Plant them together in a wide pot or divide them between two containers. The variety reaches around 30 cm in suitable conditions. Colour intensity, flower-cluster density and stem length vary with light, temperature, bulb size and care. You are buying planting bulbs, not ready-flowering plants.

Botanical name: Hyacinthus orientalis 'Gipsy Queen'. This is a named variety, not a colour mix. The appearance of the flowers may vary with lighting, screens and flowering stage. Scent intensity depends on temperature, ventilation and your distance from the pot.

Planting and care

  1. Plant in autumn when the weather becomes milder and the soil cools. Choose sun or light shade and well-drained soil.
  2. Plant with the pointed end upwards at a depth of around 10 cm, leaving at least 7–8 cm between bulbs in the ground. Cover the bulbs completely rather than leaving them exposed, then water to settle the soil.
  3. Use a deep pot with drainage holes and suitable potting mix. Space the 3 bulbs apart in a large container, or divide them between two pots.
  4. Water moderately when needed and avoid standing water. Do not assume these bulbs are specially prepared for early indoor flowering. You may move the pot to a suitable indoor position as the flowers approach opening.
  5. Remove the faded flower stem after blooming, but leave the leaves until they yellow naturally. Reduce watering as the bulb becomes dormant. Bulbs may flower again in a later season, with less dense clusters.

About the planting illustration: it is a general guide. Cover the bulbs with soil at a planting depth of around 10 cm. The flower colours in that illustration do not represent Gipsy Queen.

What you receive

A Hedera pack of 3 Gipsy Queen hyacinth bulbs for ornamental planting, not flowering plants. The bulbs are not edible and may irritate skin. Keep away from children and pets and wear gloves if your skin is sensitive.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a colour mix?
No. All 3 bulbs are Gipsy Queen. The general planting illustration does not show this product's flower colours.

Should the bulbs remain above the soil as shown in the illustration?
No. Plant about 10 cm deep, pointed end upwards, and cover with soil.

Can I plant all 3 in one pot?
Yes, if the pot is sufficiently wide and deep, with drainage holes and space between bulbs. Otherwise use two pots.

Are the flowers fragrant?
Yes. Fragrance varies with flowering stage, ventilation and temperature.

Will they arrive flowering, or flower early indoors?
They arrive as planting bulbs. Early indoor flowering normally requires specially prepared bulbs and suitable treatment.
