Care Guide

Light

Provide medium to bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which may fade the leaves or scorch their edges.

Watering

Keep the soil moderately moist and water when the top 2–3 cm is dry. Do not leave water standing in the saucer or keep the soil saturated for long periods.

Humidity

Prefers medium to high humidity and moderate room conditions away from air-conditioning or direct dry airflow. If the tips begin to dry, use low-salt or filtered water where possible.

Temperature

Best between 18–28°C. Protect from severe cold and sudden draughts.

Feeding

Apply a diluted, balanced fertiliser every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer. Reduce feeding in winter.

Important Notes

  • Curling or drooping leaves may indicate dry soil or low humidity.
  • Yellowing leaves are often associated with overwatering.
  • Gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep their pattern clear and attractive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jungle Velvet Calathea suitable for low light?

It tolerates medium light, but its appearance and growth are best with bright, indirect light. Keep out of direct sunlight.

How often should I water it?

There is no fixed schedule. Check the soil and water when the top 2–3 cm is dry, maintaining moderate moisture without waterlogging.

Why are its leaves curling or drooping?

Common causes include dry soil, low humidity, air-conditioning airflow or a direct cold draught.

Are burgundy leaf undersides normal?

Yes. Burgundy undersides are a distinctive feature of Jungle Velvet Calathea, especially visible when leaves curve or change direction.

Is a decorative planter included?

No. The plant comes in a plastic nursery pot, 19 cm in diameter. Decorative planters in lifestyle photos are for illustration only.

Will my plant look exactly like the photos?

You will receive the same variety and approximate size, but leaf number, direction and curvature naturally vary between plants.
