Product description

Cucumber: A Refreshing Crop for Your Garden

Cucumbers are rich in water and nutrients, help keep the body hydrated, and are widely used in salads, pickles and juices. Their easy cultivation and fast growth make them a popular choice for home gardens.

1. How to Grow Cucumbers

  • Soil preparation: Choose fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Cultivate the soil to a depth of 25–30 cm to improve aeration.
  • Sowing: Plant seeds 1–2 cm deep, leaving 30–50 cm between plants. Water gently after sowing to encourage germination.
  • Watering: Keep the soil regularly moist; drip irrigation is preferable.
  • Feeding: Use a balanced fertiliser such as NPK 10-10-10, or a potassium-rich fertiliser to support fruiting.
  • Support: Stakes or trellises help plants grow vertically and keep the fruit clean.
  • Weeding: Remove weeds regularly to reduce competition for nutrients.

2. Harvesting

Cucumbers are usually ready to harvest 45–60 days after planting, depending on the variety. Pick fruit when it reaches 10–15 cm long, and harvest every 2–3 days to encourage continued production.

3. Common Pests and Diseases

  • Aphids and thrips: controlled using products such as Prize or Symbaz.
  • Powdery mildew and downy mildew: treated using Mycotan.
  • Root rot: reduce the risk by maintaining good drainage and avoiding overwatering.

4. Additional Growing Tips

  • Choose a sunny position with 6–8 hours of sunlight daily.
  • Avoid overhead watering to reduce fungal problems.
  • Companion planting with basil or radishes may help reduce pests.
  • Sow in successive batches for a continuous harvest.

With appropriate watering, feeding and pest management, cucumbers can provide an abundant supply of fresh, crisp fruit from your home garden.
