🌱 Step-by-step planting guide

  1. Prepare the growing medium: Mix the bed soil with 25–30% Hedera Mix or well-rotted compost. Ensure good drainage (pH 6.5–7.2).
  2. Soak the seeds (optional): Soak in lukewarm water for 8–12 hours, then drain.
  3. Depth and spacing: Sow 5–7 cm deep, or up to 8–10 cm if the soil is dry. Leave 15–25 cm between planting stations and 45–60 cm between rows. Sow two seeds per station, then keep the stronger seedling after germination.
  4. Watering: Water thoroughly after sowing, then regularly every 5–8 days in winter according to soil moisture, without waterlogging.
  5. Care: Remove weeds regularly and provide light support if needed. Once pods start to set, pinching out the growing tips is recommended to reduce aphid infestation and speed up ripening.
  6. Harvest: Pick the pods when full but still tender for the best flavour.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Can I grow them on a balcony?
Yes. Use a 30–40 L pot with 2–3 plants per pot, 5–7 hours of sunlight and light support.

Why is flowering delayed or pod set poor?
Late sowing or high temperatures during flowering are common causes. Autumn or early winter is the best planting time.

What causes brown spots on leaves and flowers?
This may be Botrytis (chocolate spot). Improve ventilation and use a suitable fungicide according to the label.
