Product description

Offered through a special collaboration between Magic Seed and Hedera, these seeds produce oval Charleston Grey watermelon, known for its elongated shape, pale exterior, thick rind and distinctive flavour. Suitable for home gardens and small farms under appropriate growing conditions, this variety is known for its consistent shape and quality red flesh. Each pack contains 30 carefully selected seeds for high quality and germination.

How to grow

Direct sowing

This variety is usually sown directly in the soil. Sow at a suitable shallow depth in well-prepared ground, leaving enough space between planting positions for vines to spread and grow well. Maintain moderate soil moisture after sowing until seedlings emerge.

Starting seedlings

Seedlings can be started in some growing systems. Sow in suitable trays or containers, then transplant to the final growing position once the seedlings are ready, allowing appropriate spacing between plants.

When to plant

Plant Charleston Grey watermelon during warm periods, avoiding cold spells and frost. Exact dates vary by region and should be determined by the grower or an agricultural specialist according to local weather conditions.

Plant care

Choose a location with good direct daylight for strong growth and high-quality fruit. Water regularly without overwatering or flooding the soil, and provide good drainage. Use a balanced feeding programme suited to the soil and growing system. Check plants regularly for pests, diseases or other problems and address them as needed.

Harvesting

Harvest fully ripe fruit when it reaches the appropriate texture and colour, as assessed by the grower. Timely harvesting provides the best quality and flavour.
