Product description

Offered through a special collaboration between Magic Seed and Hedera, these seeds produce Black Sugar watermelon, known for its dark rind, vibrant red flesh and sweet flavour. Its evenly shaped round or oval fruit makes it a suitable choice for home gardens and small farms under suitable growing conditions. Each pack contains 30 carefully selected seeds for high quality and germination.

How to grow

Direct sowing

Watermelon is usually sown directly in the ground. Sow at a suitable shallow depth in well-prepared soil, leaving enough space between planting positions for roots and vines to spread. Water after sowing and maintain moderate moisture until seedlings emerge.

Starting seedlings

Seedlings can be started in some growing systems. Sow in containers or seed trays filled with a light growing medium. Once the seedlings have developed, transplant them to their final growing position with suitable spacing.

When to plant

Plant Black Sugar watermelon during warm periods of the year, after cold spells and frost have passed. Suitable dates vary by region and should be determined by the grower or an agricultural specialist according to local weather conditions.

Plant care

Choose a location with good direct daylight for strong growth and high-quality fruit. Water regularly without overwatering and ensure good soil drainage. Use a balanced feeding programme suited to the soil and growing conditions. Check plants regularly for pests, diseases or other problems and treat as needed.

Harvesting

Harvest fully ripe fruit when it reaches the appropriate colour and texture, as assessed by the grower. Timely harvesting gives the best quality and flavour.
