Dracaena Lemon Lime care guide

Light

Provide bright, indirect light to help maintain clear lime stripes and contrasting leaf colours.

It can adapt to medium light, but prolonged low light may slow growth and reduce the clarity of the lime variegation. Avoid direct midday sun, especially through glass in summer.

Watering

Water when approximately the top 4–6 cm of soil has dried. Add water slowly until it begins to drain, then empty any water beneath the pot or inside the decorative planter.

Do not follow a fixed weekly schedule. Drying rates vary with season, temperature, light and the use of air conditioning or heating.

Important: Overwatering and waterlogged soil may cause yellow leaves and weakened roots.

Temperature and position

Moderate home and office temperatures are suitable. Keep it away from direct air-conditioning airflow, heaters and doors frequently exposed to hot or cold air.

In Jordan, keep it indoors during cold periods. Position it near a well-lit window with protection from direct summer sun.

Humidity

It usually adapts to normal household humidity. Very dry air may dry the leaf tips, so keep it away from heaters and direct hot airflow.

Soil and drainage

Use a light, well-drained mix and a pot with clear drainage holes. Do not leave the pot standing in collected water or use heavy soil that stays wet for long periods.

Feeding

Apply a balanced houseplant fertiliser every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer at the rate on the label. Reduce or stop feeding in winter when growth slows.

Cleaning the leaves

Wipe the leaves regularly with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, maintain their natural shine and help them make use of light.

Avoid heavy leaf-shine products. Rotate the pot a quarter turn approximately every two weeks to encourage balanced growth in different directions.

Repotting

Repot when roots become crowded or start emerging from the drainage holes. Move up just one pot size with good drainage, rather than using a much larger container.

Frequently asked questions

Will the leaves keep their lime colour?

Yes, with bright, indirect light. Prolonged low light may make the lime shades less distinct and slow growth.

Does it tolerate low light?

It can adapt to medium light, but is not the best choice for very dark corners. For the best growth and clearest variegation, choose a well-lit spot out of direct sun.

Does the 150 cm height include the pot?

Yes. The approximate measurement runs from the bottom of the nursery pot to the highest leaf.

How often should I water it?

There is no fixed number of days. Check the soil and water when the top 4–6 cm dries. It usually needs water more often in warm, bright conditions and less often in winter.

Is it suitable for offices?

Yes. Its upright growth and lively colours suit offices, entrances and reception halls, provided there is good natural light or suitable grow lighting.

Why do the leaves have brown tips?

Dry air, irregular watering, salt build-up, direct air-conditioning or heater airflow, or strong sun may be responsible. Check these factors before trimming damaged tips.

Is Dracaena Lemon Lime safe for cats and dogs?

No. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs and prevent pets from chewing the leaves.

Is the decorative planter in the photograph included?

No. The plant comes in a 24 cm plastic nursery pot. The decorative planter in the lifestyle photograph is not included and can be purchased separately.
