Product description

Areca Palm — 120 cm Tall, 21 cm Pot

Bring an empty corner to life with the Areca Palm and its dense, feathery fronds. Slender stems grow closely together, with leaves in light and dark green shades that bring a soft tropical presence to a home or office without a heavy appearance.

Plant details on delivery

  • Common name: Areca Palm
  • Commonly used botanical name: Dypsis lutescens
  • Approximate height: 120 cm, including the nursery pot
  • Nursery pot diameter: 21 cm
  • Growth habit: A dense, multi-stemmed cluster
  • Leaf colour: Varying shades of green
  • Supplied pot: Black plastic nursery pot
  • Decorative planter: Not included
  • Origin: Imported from the Netherlands
  • Use: Indoor floor plant

Areca has a naturally spreading habit. Frond direction, density and plant width may vary slightly between plants, while the variety and overall height are maintained.

What does Areca bring to a space?

  • Dense greenery that fills corners attractively.
  • Soft, arching fronds that add movement to an interior.
  • A 120 cm height suited to living rooms, offices and reception areas.
  • Full foliage that can create a light visual divider in spacious rooms.
  • A good choice if you prefer leafy plants to exposed woody stems.

Areca Palm care routine

Choose good light

Position it near a window with bright, filtered light. It can adapt to medium light, but insufficient light may slow growth and make the fronds less dense.

Keep it out of direct midday sun, particularly through glass, to prevent leaf scorch.

Maintain balanced soil moisture

Check before watering and water when the top 2–4 cm of soil dries. Areca needs more regular watering than Dracaena, but does not tolerate roots sitting in waterlogged soil.

Water the soil thoroughly and allow excess water to drain fully. Do not leave water collected inside a decorative planter.

Provide suitable humidity

Areca likes moderate to high humidity. If heating or air conditioning makes the air dry, use a nearby humidifier or place it in a well-ventilated area away from direct airflow.

Temperature

Keep it at a moderate temperature of approximately 18–27°C. Avoid air conditioners, heaters, external doors and windows exposed to cold draughts.

Feed during the growing season

Apply a balanced foliage-plant fertiliser approximately every 4 weeks in spring and summer at the recommended rate. Stop or reduce feeding in winter and when growth slows.

Rotate and clean

Rotate the pot a quarter turn every week or two for more balanced growth towards the light. Remove dust from the fronds with a gentle spray or shower, then let the leaves dry in a well-ventilated spot.

Why do Areca leaf tips dry out?

Brown tips may result from one or more of the following:

  • Soil left dry for too long.
  • Low humidity.
  • Salt build-up in the soil.
  • Too much fertiliser.
  • Air-conditioning draughts or hot airflow.
  • Regular use of water with a high salt content.

Trim brown parts with clean scissors, leaving a narrow brown margin and avoiding healthy green tissue.

Hedera tip

Do not repot immediately on arrival. Let the plant adjust to its new position and change the pot only when roots fill it or drainage declines. Choose a pot just one size larger with clear drainage holes.

Where it looks best

The 120 cm Areca suits:

  • A bright living-room corner.
  • Beside a reading chair or large window.
  • Office entrances and reception areas.
  • Meeting rooms and commercial spaces.
  • A light visual division between two areas of a room.

Allow enough space around the fronds, as the width depends on their direction and the density of each plant.

Areca and pets

Areca Palm is classified as non-toxic to cats and dogs. Still, discourage pets from chewing the leaves to avoid plant damage or digestive upset from eating large amounts of plant material.

Frequently asked questions

Is Areca suitable indoors?

Yes. It is a popular palm for homes and offices and does well with bright, indirect light and balanced watering.

Does the 120 cm height include the pot?

Yes. The approximate height is measured from the bottom of the nursery pot to the tallest frond.

What is the nursery pot diameter?

The plant comes in a 21 cm nursery pot. The decorative planter is not included.

Does Areca need direct sun?

It does not need strong sun. Bright, filtered light is best, although it can benefit from gentle morning sun for a limited time.

How often should I water Areca?

Do not follow a fixed number of days. Check the soil and water when the top 2–4 cm dries, allowing the water to drain fully.

Should I mist the leaves every day?

Daily misting is unnecessary and raises humidity only temporarily. Keeping it away from direct dry airflow, with good ventilation and suitable room humidity, matters more.

Is the planter in the lifestyle photograph included?

No. The product includes the Areca Palm in its black plastic nursery pot only. The decorative planter is shown for styling and illustration.
