Product description

Growing Sahouri Armenian Cucumbers at Home

1. About the plant

Sahouri Armenian cucumber is a local cucumber type with long fruit, a delicious flavour and a crisp texture. It is easy to grow in home gardens and is an ideal crop for organic gardening enthusiasts because of its rapid growth and abundant production.

2. Step-by-step growing guide

Soil preparation

Sahouri cucumber prefers well-drained sandy or light loamy soil with a good organic-matter content. Work the soil thoroughly and add organic fertiliser before planting to provide adequate nutrition.

Sowing

Sow directly into the soil at a depth of 1–2 cm, leaving 30–40 cm between seeds for healthy growth. Choose a site receiving at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Plant care

  • Watering: water regularly without overwatering to avoid root rot. Early morning watering is preferable.
  • Feeding: use a nitrogen-rich fertiliser during vegetative growth, then switch to one containing phosphorus and potassium during flowering and fruiting.
  • Support: grow directly on the ground or provide a trellis to support the stems and keep fruit cleaner.
  • Weeding: regularly clear weeds around the plant to maintain healthy growth.

Harvest

Fruiting begins about 50–60 days after planting. For the best flavour, harvest at 15–20 cm long. Cut fruit with sharp shears to avoid damaging the stems.

3. Common pests and problems

  • Aphids: can be controlled with insecticides.
  • Powdery mildew: appears as a white coating on leaves; fungicide spraying is recommended.
  • Whiteflies: reduce numbers with yellow sticky traps or an insecticide spray.

4. Additional home-growing tips

  • Plant from March to July for the best production.
  • A sunny location improves fruit production and quality.
  • Avoid planting near insect-attracting crops such as courgettes and pumpkins to reduce pest spread.
  • Organic amendments such as compost can improve soil quality and support growth.

Sahouri Armenian cucumber is an easy-to-grow local crop that produces abundant, tasty fruit with modest care. Suitable watering and good feeding help provide a fresh, healthy harvest from your home garden.
