Product description

Growing Dill (Ain Jaradeh) at Home

Dill, also known as Ain Jaradeh, is an herb in the parsley family. Its fine, aromatic leaves are used in many dishes, particularly seafood and pickles. It is easy to grow and rich in vitamins and minerals.

Preparing the Soil

  • Dill needs light, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
  • Well-aerated soil supports root growth.
  • Work the soil to a depth of 20–30 cm to provide enough room for growth.

Sowing the Seeds

  • Sow dill seeds 1–2 cm deep.
  • Leave 15–20 cm between plants so they have enough room to grow.
  • Water gently after sowing to keep the soil moist.

Plant Care

  • Watering: Water regularly, keeping the soil moist without waterlogging.
  • Fertilizing: A balanced NPK 10-10-10 fertilizer is recommended to support growth.
  • Weeding: Remove weeds regularly to keep the soil clear.
  • Thinning: Thin crowded seedlings to give the stronger plants room to grow.

Harvesting

Dill leaves can be harvested 40–50 days after sowing, once the foliage is well developed. Pick leaves from the top to encourage side growth, and cut sprigs as needed.

Common Pests and Problems

  • Aphids: Products such as PRIZE or Symbaz may be used where the label permits use on this crop and pest.
  • Weeds: Remove them by hand so they do not compete with the plants.
  • Fungal diseases: Powdery mildew is one example; Mycotan may be used where its label permits this use.

Tips for Growing Dill Successfully

  • Choose a sunny location for the best growth.
  • Dill grows best in mild weather, so avoid planting in very hot conditions.
  • Use pots or beds if garden space is limited.
  • Make successive sowings for a continuous harvest.

Dill is an aromatic, easy-to-grow herb that adds fresh flavor to meals. With good watering, feeding and pest care, you can enjoy fresh leaves throughout the season.
