Why Choose It?

Dracaena Marginata Care

Light

Prefers bright, indirect indoor light and can adapt to medium light. Avoid direct midday sun, which may scorch leaf tips or cause dry patches.

Very low light may slow growth and reduce the fullness and colour of the foliage.

Watering

Water when approximately the top 4–6 cm of soil has dried. Water thoroughly until excess water begins to drain, then discard any water collected beneath the pot.

Do not rely on a fixed weekly schedule. Water needs vary with temperature, light, pot size, air conditioning and heating.

Important: Overwatering and waterlogged soil are common causes of yellow leaves and weakened roots.

Temperature and Placement

Moderate home and office temperatures are suitable. Keep away from direct air-conditioning draughts, heaters and doors exposed to persistent cold air.

In Jordan, keep it indoors during cold weather and avoid placing it against window glass exposed to strong summer sun.

Humidity

It usually adapts to normal household humidity, but very dry air may dry the leaf tips. Keep it away from hot air and clean its leaves regularly to maintain their appearance.

Soil and Drainage

Use a light, well-draining indoor potting mix and a pot with drainage holes. Never leave the pot standing in collected water.

Feeding

Use a balanced houseplant fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during active growth in spring and summer, following the dose on the label. Reduce or stop feeding in winter when growth slows.

Leaf Care

Gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust. Rotate the pot a quarter turn approximately every two weeks to encourage balanced growth towards the light.

Dry tips can be trimmed with clean scissors, preserving the leaf's natural pointed shape as much as possible.

Repotting

Repot when roots become crowded or grow through the drainage holes. Choose a pot only one size larger, as moving directly into a very large container may keep the soil wet for too long.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it tolerate low light?

It can adapt to medium and relatively low light, but looks and grows best in bright, indirect light. Very low light may reduce foliage density and vibrancy.

How often should I water it?

There is no fixed schedule. Check the soil first and water when the top 4–6 cm has dried. It may need more frequent watering in summer and less in winter.

Is it suitable for offices?

Yes. Its upright habit and neat appearance suit offices, provided there is good indoor light and it is not placed directly in front of an air conditioner.

Is it safe for cats and dogs?

No. Keep it out of their reach and prevent pets from chewing its leaves.

Why do the leaf tips dry out?

Dry air, irregular watering, salt build-up in the soil, air-conditioning or heating airflow, and strong sunlight may be responsible. Check its location and watering before trimming dry tips.

Is the decorative pot pictured included?

No. The plant comes in a plastic nursery pot. The decorative pot in the lifestyle photograph is not included and can be purchased separately.
