Product description

Copper onion seeds for home growing and attractive copper-coloured onion bulbs. Suitable for a home garden, deep containers or a planting bed, with direct sun and light, well-drained soil.

Quick Facts

  • Scientific name: Allium cepa.
  • Weight: 1.5 g.
  • Growing season: Cool season.
  • Light: Full sun.
  • Transplanting needed? Starting seedlings for transplanting is preferred for more uniform bulbs, but direct sowing is also possible.

How to Grow

  1. Start seeds in a seedling tray or small container using a fine, moist growing medium. Cover with a light layer of the medium.
  2. Place the tray in a bright spot and maintain moderate moisture without waterlogging.
  3. Transplant to the final growing position after several true leaves and a well-developed root system have formed.
  4. Space seedlings about 8–10 cm apart, with 25–30 cm between rows.
  5. You can also sow directly into the ground. Thin the seedlings later so each plant has enough room to form a bulb.

Care and Harvest

Onions grow best with regular watering, without severe drying or standing water. Keep the growing area free of weeds, which compete strongly with their shallow roots. Use balanced feeding according to soil conditions, and avoid excess nitrogen once bulbs begin to form. Harvest when most leaves start to yellow and bend over naturally, then cure the bulbs in a shaded, well-ventilated place before storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I grow them in a pot?

Yes. Choose a deep pot with good drainage and place it in direct sun.

Is transplanting essential?

No, but it is the better option for more uniform bulbs, particularly in small home growing spaces.
