Product description

Philodendron selloum, also known as Philodendron bipinnatifidum, is native to South America and is valued for its large, deeply lobed leaves. It can grow to a mature height of 2–3 metres and produce aerial roots that take up moisture and nutrients. Flowering generally occurs only after 15–20 years under suitable conditions.

Care

Use a loose, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry between waterings. Wilting leaves can indicate either insufficient water or overwatering.

Provide medium to bright light without direct sunlight. Some yellowing of older leaves is normal. Extensive yellowing may indicate excessive light or direct sun, while very long stems can suggest insufficient light.

Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser once a month in spring and summer, and every two months in autumn and winter. Slow growth or small leaves may indicate inadequate feeding. Pale new leaves may indicate a calcium or magnesium deficiency.

A temperature of approximately 18–25°C is suitable. Wear gloves when handling the plant.

Propagation

Propagate from stem cuttings placed in soil or water. Roots should develop after several weeks.
