Product description

Eucalyptus pulverulenta Baby Blue Bouquet — For Cut-Flower Production

Choosing Baby Blue Bouquet from Benary means choosing quality seeds from an international company founded in 1843 and serving more than 120 countries. These seeds support professional flower-production standards.

Key features

  • Excellent for cutting: Uniform plants with strong stems suited to cutting.
  • Small, rounded, silver-grey leaves: A distinctive ornamental appearance.
  • Short internodes: For denser foliage.
  • High germination rate: 85%+ for greater reliability.
  • Tested and true to variety for quality results.

Plant details

  • Spring crop time: 15–18 weeks.
  • Height: 125 cm.
  • Spread: 23 cm.
  • Exposure: Full sun.
  • Seed form: Raw seeds.
  • Hardiness: Conditionally hardy.
  • Primary use: Cut-flower production.

Growing guide

  • Uses: Pots, mixed containers and landscaping.
  • Sowing: Sow 1–3 seeds per plug cell. Use 2–3 seeds per cell for a fuller finished product. Covering is unnecessary, although a light layer of vermiculite can help retain moisture.
  • Germination: Root emergence takes 7–9 days. Maintain 95–100% humidity until day 9, then reduce to 40–60%.
  • Growth conditions: High light intensity and warm temperatures shorten overall production time.
  • Plug medium: pH 5.5–6.2, EC below 0.75. Keep saturated at moisture level 5 for the first 2–3 days, then reduce to wet, level 4.
  • Growing-on medium: pH 5.5–6.2, EC 1.25–1.70. Alternate between wet, level 4, and medium moisture, level 2, according to conditions.
  • Temperature: 20–25°C during plug production, then 16–18°C at night and 20–21°C by day. Plants tolerate slightly lower temperatures, but not below 12°C. Eucalyptus does not tolerate frost.
  • Feeding: Plants require high feeding levels. Apply a balanced fertiliser such as 15-5-15 or 17-5-17 at 150–200 ppm weekly. Under high light and temperature conditions, 20-10-20 may be used. Slow-release fertilisers can be effective in large containers.

Growth stages

  1. Stage 1 runs from initial root formation to cotyledon development.
  2. Stage 2 runs from fully developed cotyledons to the first true leaves.
  3. Stage 3 ends when 80% of plants are market-ready.
  4. Stage 4: plants are ready for sale and undergo 7 days of hardening.

Recommendations are based on Central European trials; results may differ in other regions.
